Government Commits to Increased Independent School Funding

The Independent Schools Council of Australia (ISCA) has today welcomed the commitment of the Prime Minister, the Hon Julia Gillard, MP that “every independent school in Australia will see their funding increase under the Government’s plan for school funding reform.”

The Prime Minister gave this commitment as part of her opening address to the Independent Schools National Education Forum in Canberra today.

ISCA Executive Director, Mr Bill Daniels, said that it was pleasing that the Prime Minister is committed to ending the public-private debate and instead focus on lifting school standards, not school fees.

“This is the first time the Australian Government has made a commitment that goes beyond the no school will lose a dollar promise following the Gonski review”, he said.
