Media release: Australia’s first Regional Education Commissioner

6 December 2021

Independent Schools Australia (ISA) congratulates the Hon Fiona Nash on her appointment as Australia's first Regional Education Commissioner.

The CEO of ISA, Margery Evans said today, “This appointment is welcome news and we wish Ms Nash great success in implementing the recommendations of the Napthine Review.”

ISA has consistently argued for better support for regional, rural and remote students. This new Commissioner role brings a welcome focus to education outside metropolitan areas and can help reduce the disparity between the outcomes of city and country students.

“Wherever students live and study, they deserve equitable access to education.

“We look forward to working with Ms Nash in her new role as Regional Education Commissioner,”
said Ms Evans.

ISA is the peak body representing 1,187 Independent schools with 667,259 enrolled students.
