Independent Schools Australia (ISA), with the National Catholic Education Commission (NCEC), has made a joint submission on the Exposure Draft of the Children’s Online Privacy Code.
The ISA and NCEC submission supports stronger privacy protections for children while highlighting the unique responsibilities of schools in balancing privacy, safety and educational obligations.
It outlines the ways that non-government schools already prioritise privacy and identifies a number of unintended impacts if the draft Code is applied to school settings, including increased administrative burden and potential constraints on schools’ ability to act in students’ best interests.
The submission provides recommendations to improve the proposed operation of the Code, including clarifying its application to schools and ensuring it remains practical and effective in supporting children’s privacy in the school context.
