Independent Schools Australia (ISA) congratulates Australian students for their exceptional performance in the OECD PISA 2022 creative thinking assessment. The results highlight the dedication and hard work of students and teachers across the country.
In the latest assessment, an impressive 85% of high school students in government schools attained the National Proficient Standard in creative thinking. This was higher than the OECD average of 78%. This achievement is further complemented by the outstanding results of students in Catholic and Independent schools, with 92% and 93% of students respectively reaching the same standard.
These results underscore the importance of fostering creative thinking skills in our education system. Independent Schools Australia is pleased to see high levels of proficiency and is committed to continuing to support and promote innovative teaching practices that nurture creativity and critical thinking in students.
ISA extends our congratulations to all students and educators for their achievements in creative thinking. Creative thinking is crucial as it fosters innovation and problem-solving skills, enabling students to approach challenges with fresh perspectives and develop unique solutions. As artificial intelligence technologies rapidly advance, creative thinking becomes even more crucial so that students retain the capacity to create their own individual responses.
ISA is the national peak body representing 1,216 Independent schools with close to 720,000 enrolled students, accounting for approximately 17 per cent of Australian school enrolments and a workforce of 122,000 people. Independent schools are diverse, serving a range of different communities across Australia.
