As part of its School Choice Counts campaign, Independent Schools Australia (ISA) is calling for national investment in innovation across all school sectors to support the future of Australian education.
ISA Chief Executive Graham Catt said the announcement by the Coalition of a new national network of Australian Technical Colleges was a welcome sign that education innovation is on the agenda this election.
“Independent schools are already home to some of Australia’s most innovative education models, including in skills training, technology, and flexible learning,” Mr Catt said.
“We welcome any investment that creates more choice and new pathways for students. But innovation should be inclusive, collaborative, and backed by structured support to share what works across the whole education system.”
ISA is calling for a $50 million Cross-Sector Innovation Fund, which would allow successful projects from any school sector — including public, Catholic and Independent — to be trialled, evaluated, and scaled to benefit all Australian students.
“Now is the time to end the politics of exclusion and focus on shared solutions. Our schools are already collaborating with employers, universities, private training providers and TAFEs to prepare students for the future. With the right support, we can do even more — and help other schools do the same,” he said.
“We’re pleased to see a focus on skills and pathways in this campaign. What’s needed now is a whole-of-sector approach that puts student outcomes ahead of sector divisions.”
